Well as I write this I am using matchsticks to keep my eyes open! We have just returned home from a weekend competing in Keysoe Bedford, a really lovely venue with helpful staff. Serena had qualified earlier in the season so we thought it would be good experience for Serena and Pepper to do a 2 day show staying overnight. I wasn’t really expecting Serena to come home with any rosettes but Serena in her usual calm collected way, (not fazed by nerves at all) rode like a professional and came home with a 7th, two 4th’s and a 3rd, oh my goodness what a trooper. Pepper was on his toes on day 2, but Serena kept him focused while warming up and and came out with another rosette. We did not think we were coming home at one point after pepper was being very stubben to load, and just after getting all 4 feet on the ramp a horsebox rattled past us at 90 miles an hour, with Sophia and myself wanting to cry, and Serena hanging on to Pepper for dear life! But then the horsebox had a horse stamping around which scared Pepper who ran up into our horsebox at lightning speed, Sophia’s face lit up and home we went.
So thank you to everyone who organised the “amateur showing society championships” a really well run weekend, and thanks to everyone who supported Serena in getting this far but a special thank you to Sophia who came as groom as I would not have been able to do it without her.
